Good Vibes, Great Food, and a Graduation to Remember
Some moments feel larger than life—where family, culture, and celebration come together so beautifully that you just know you’ll carry them forever. My niece’s graduation in Jamaica was exactly that kind of experience. From the pride of watching her graduate to our unforgettable dinner at Di Lot JA, the evening was a reminder of what it means to honor milestones with love, flavor, and togetherness.

A Day of Pride and Promise 🎓
Seeing my niece dressed in her school uniform with her cap perched gracefully on her head was a heartwarming moment. Education in Jamaica is both a privilege and a testament to perseverance. Her smile said it all—years of hard work, early mornings, and late nights were worth it. Knowing that she attended the same primary school that shaped not only me, but our entire family is something to pause and admire especially when two matriarchs of our family passed.
Family in Color and Joy 🌺
Our family gathered in vibrant hues—golden yellows, royal blues, floral pinks, and playful purples. Each outfit seemed to reflect the spirit of the night: bold, joyful, unapologetically Caribbean.
My younger niece giggled barefoot in her lavender dress, swinging carefree in a chair, while the older cousins posed proudly for pictures. Generations stood together in front of the glowing Good Vibes on Di Lot’s wall, laughter bubbling as we tried to fit everyone into frame.
These were not just photographs, they were reminders of legacy, of a family bound together across ages and stages. Though I live in the United Sates, it is moments like these that remind me that Jamaica will forever be my home. Being an immigrant can sometimes be very hard because your heartstrings are transplanted across the globe.
Dinner at Di Lot JA: A Feast for the Soul 🍴
When it comes to celebration, Jamaicans know that food is never an afterthought. PERIOD!!
At Di Lot, the dishes came alive with the island’s signature flavors. There were three different styles of restaurant at the location which meant options galore. There were a variety of games fitting for children and those that are childlike at heart (ME!!!!). There was even a karaoke stage, but they only did that on Tuesdays…womp womp.

My plate was a generous serving of jerk chicken paired with sweet fried plantains, crispy festivals, and a side of coleslaw for balance. A small bowl of rich brown sauce sat nearby, perfect for dipping. Talk about a ‘belly full.” No this was not a “TSITP” reference. LOL

The dishes carried a visual aroma—so vibrant, you could almost taste them with your eyes first. 'Di food mek mi waan lick mi finga.” Did you see that barbecue glazed ribs?
Another favorite was the creamy pasta, tossed in a golden sauce, served with warm garlic bread on the side. All of that deliciousness and guess what the graduate ordered???
If you said burger, you are correct. All that niceness just to order a burger. 😳 KIDS...

Every dish told its own story. The jerk seasoning reminded us of our roots, the ribs of indulgence, and the pasta of fusion—modern flavors meeting local flair. Together, they painted a picture of how Jamaican dining can be both deeply traditional and joyfully innovative.
Good Vibes All Night 🌿✨
As the night went on, it wasn’t just about the food or the outfits. It was about the energy—the vibes. Children laughed, adults reminisced, and the graduate basked in the glow of love and accomplishment. There was this weird moment when I called a man a “Christmas Tree.” Hold up a minute dude was dressed in a fully green jacket, red pants with a white shirt and black and gold shoes. Yasssss! I noticed his shoes, he was sharp but a Christmas Tree, nonetheless. We ended up chatting for a while and my family made it awkward as fudge (my niece might read this). They videoed us for chrissake and started calling me Mrs. Claus. That’s family, I guess.
When I was standing in front of the golden words Good Vibes I realized how perfectly it summed up our night and my family. Life can be demanding, but moments like this remind us why we work hard: for the joy of gathering, for the warmth of family, and for the pride of seeing the next generation rise.

Closing Reflections 💛
This celebration reminded me of what WondaLove Sisters is all about—pausing to honor life’s milestones, big or small, and wrapping them in the love of family, culture, and community.
My niece’s graduation wasn’t just a personal achievement. It was a family triumph. It was a Jamaican celebration—where food nourishes more than the body, colors express more than fashion, and togetherness creates memories that will last a lifetime.
Keep exploring our cultural caravan. 💫
With love and laughter, Fay and her Family (Honorary Guests)
