Doing This Apart, But Still Together ❤️

Now that Fay’s up in Leesburg and I’m still here in Bedford, we’ve started making our blog posts more personal. It’s our way of staying connected and sharing the big and little moments from our days, even when we can’t be side by side like we used to. Whether it’s a cozy coffee run or a date night with our partners, we’re still living the WondaLove life… just with a little more distance (and a lot more texting).

This week, we decided to share a little of our culture.

Me being a Latina, I had to find a spot with some flavorful Mexican food. I needed flavor, fun and a little heat - and Cilantro Mexican Grill in Moneta, VA was the perfect place.

What started as a simple dinner date with Christian turned into a mini fiesta with oversized margaritas, tortas bigger than our heads, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like you’re hanging out with close friends. Close by near Smith Mountain Lake, Cilantro is the kind of spot that doesn’t need flash to stand out. The food and the people are the vibe.

Margaritas & Messy Laughs

The moment my sangria margarita hit the table, I knew I was in trouble. It was huge. Like “I might need to be carried out of here” huge. After a few sips I was already halfway tipsy and had to take it to go...because your girl was not about to be carried out. #LiveYoBestLife am I right? It was fruity, strong, and honestly everything I needed after a long week.

Torta Heaven and Spicy Salsa Surprise

We both ordered tortas (because obviously), and neither of us was ready for how loaded they’d be. I got the Torta de Milanesa de Pollo (crispy, juicy Chicken). Christian went for the Torta de Carnitas (Flavorful, tender pork). They came with fries that were actually good (not just filler).

Now here’s the best part: Christian asked for a spicy salsa for me, and the waiter thought it was for him. When Christian admitted he couldn’t handle the heat, we all cracked up. They ended up bringing us two custom salsas - one medium for him, and one that had the perfect heat for me. It was such a thoughtful, funny moment that made everything feel even more personal.

Friendly Faces & Spanish Vibes

Our waiter was a gem. When he heard Christian speak Spanish, his face lit up. He said it was rare to get to speak Spanish with customers and that it made his night. We ended up chatting in Spanish for most of the meal (even I got in a little practice). It made the night feel calm, cozy, and connected.

That’s the kind of energy Cilantro brings—like you’re not just a customer, you’re a guest in their home.

Tips If You Go

  • Best time to go: Dinner, for those cozy date night vibes—but I’m sure lunch would be chill too.

  • Cost: Super affordable. We spent about $60 for two giant meals, one margarita (massive), and two other drinks.

  • How to get there: It’s right in Moneta, close to Smith Mountain Lake. Plenty of parking, no stress.

  • Who’d love it: Couples, families, spicy food lovers, or anyone looking for authentic Mexican food with heart.

We’ll definitely be going back—especially for those custom salsas and that monster margarita.

Reflecting on It All

Whether you're a local in Bedford County or just passing through for lake time, Cilantro Mexican Grill is a must-visit. It’s not just the food—it’s the people, the laughter, and those little surprises (like a perfect salsa just for you) that make the night unforgettable.

Up Next…

Fay’s up north and I’m still holding it down here, but WondaLove Sisters isn’t slowing down. Keep an eye out for our next post - we are continuing our exploration together but apart.

With wonder and love,
