Early Rise and Road Trip Vibes: Onwards to D.C.!
Bright and early, at the crack of 7 AM, we hit the road, bound for the nation's capital β Washington D.C.! It was a 4-hour drive filled with sing-alongs, road trip snacks, and endless chatter about what awaited us in the bustling city. With Athan joining us for the ride, we knew this trip was going to be nothing short of epic!
Mini Trip Plans and Parking Lot Perils:
As fate would have it, Athan had a flight to catch the next day, so we decided to turn his drop-off into a mini trip. First stop β the Capital building! But before we could set foot on the pavement, we found ourselves lost in a parking lot labyrinth desperately searching for the elusive restroom. After what felt like an eternity of wandering, we finally emerged victorious, albeit a little disoriented. Lesson learned: never underestimate navigating underground parking lots!
Capitol Building Mishap: The Case of the Wrong Shoes:
After parking just a stone's throw away from the majestic Capital building, we embarked on foot toward our first destination. But here's the kicker β Fay, made the rookie mistake of wearing the wrong pair of shoes. Let's just say her pinky toe was less than thrilled with the fashion choice, but hey, pain is temporary, memories are forever!
With our blisters bandaged and spirits high, we made our way to the iconic Capital building through the Visitorβs Centre, ready to soak in the rich history and grandeur of American democracy. As we stepped into the hallowed Emancipation Hall, we were greeted with a sense of awe and reverence. From the ornate architecture to the rich history embedded within its walls, it was a testament to the enduring legacy of American democracy.
Thanks to Toni's foresight and preparation, we breezed through the entrance with our pre-booked tickets, avoiding the long lines. We sent Athan to collect them after all he wasnβt just there for his pretty looks (LOL).
Athan managed to leave his wallet with Toni and they needed his ID for the tickets. This prompted a hilarious (and slightly exaggerated) meltdown of him yelling across the hall that had us in stitches β sorry, Toni, but even in the Emancipation Hall, you can't be emancipated from your big sister duties!

Touring the Capitol: A Dive into American History and Society
The tour kicked off with a captivating video introduction to American society and history, painting a vivid picture of the political giant that the country is. It gave insights into American society and politics, providing us with a deeper understanding of the country's founding principles and values. It was a moment of reflection, making us feel like we were a part of something greater than ourselves. To learn more about the Capitol building, you can visit their official page here.
From there, we donned our headphones and embarked on a journey through the heart of American democracy, guided by the voice of our knowledgeable tour guide.
We delved deep into the history of the building, exploring its various chambers and halls, each one steeped in significance and symbolism. The Crypt, with its awe-inspiring engineering marvels, left us in awe of the ingenuity of the past as it was built without power tools. The tour guide did mention something about having a body buried there or wanting a body buried there. Not sure because we were distracted taking selfies.
As we ascended to the Rotunda, directly beneath the majestic dome, we couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence for the events that had unfolded within these hallowed walls. There were echoes of past events frozen in paintings telling the story of the nation's triumphs and tribulations.
And who could forget the breathtaking ceiling painting in the Rotunda β the "Apotheosis of Washington '' by Constantino Brumidi β a true masterpiece that left us in awe of its beauty and grandeur. Check out our video on our TIK TOK page.
But perhaps the most memorable part of the tour was the Statuary Hall, where history came to life in the form of statues commemorating the great figures of American history. From Rosa Parks to Chief Standing Bear, each statue told a story of courage, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the American people. And of course, we couldn't resist the urge to snap a few selfies with our favorite historical figures β because when in D.C., why not strike a pose with the legends of yesteryear? We even tried whispering across the hall to see if we could hear the echo. The tour guide said this was possible which is one of the reasons the room moved from being the House of Representative Chambers to the Statuary Hall.

Culinary Adventures and Ebike Escapades: A Feast for the Senses
After a day filled with laughter and exploration, our stomachs were growling for sustenance. But alas, our attempt to find a nearby restaurant turned into a comedy of errors, with poor customer service and delayed orders leaving us scratching our heads. Nevertheless, we managed to refuel with delicious food from Art and Soul DC so we could forgive the customer service. We then embarked on a daring e-bike adventure that lasted for 10 minutes because Fay may have had a minor panic attack, but hey, at least she tried! It was her first time. We had to run and/or walk the rest of the way to the American History Museum. To learn more about the Museum, you can visit their official page here.
Museum Marvels and Boba Bargains: Culture and Creativity Collide
Despite our exhaustion, we soldiered on to the American History Museum, where we marveled at the evolution of fashion, explored the legacies of America's first ladies, and grooved to the beats of music through the ages. And of course, no cultural adventure would be complete without a refreshing Boba tea β and a bit of haggling to boot!
As true cultural connoisseurs, we put our bargaining skills to the test and managed to negotiate the price down from $10 to a whopping $9 β talk about a victory for the cultural caravan! With our thirst quenched and our savings of $3, we called this trip a success.
Reflections and Farewells: A Day to Remember
As we bid farewell to Washington D.C., we couldn't help but reflect on the day's adventures β from getting lost in parking lots to whispering across statuary hall, every moment was a testament to the power of friendship, laughter, and exploration. And though we may have logged over 15,000 steps and encountered a few bumps along the way, we wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world. There was the final annoyance of paying the toll when you donβt have an EZ pass but that could be a whole different blog post.
